It’s time to pull out those dusty notebooks and set some goals for the new year. There’s something inherently exciting about a new year: it gives us the incentive to dream bigger and consider all the possibilities ahead. It’s also a time to reflect on the past year and celebrate the progress we’ve made.

At Carolina Family Estate Planning (CFEP), this has been a year of expansion while maintaining our commitment to excellent client service. We started the year with a team of six. Our team now numbers 9 incredible women (plus incredible interns) and me.

Attorney Kellie Corbett officially joined the firm in January, and her legal knowledge and enthusiasm have surpassed our high expectations. In May, one of our clients recognized CFEP from our job ad, and thus Cheryl became our second Client Services Specialist. She orchestrates our seminars and has helped enhance the “Ritz Carlton experience” we strive to provide our clients. Amanda joined the firm in July, bringing a grief counseling background that helps her work with clients during their most difficult times. In August, Christie moved on, and we wish her well. Christie’s daughter, Leah, continues to intern at our firm, and she was joined this summer by Taylor, and Cheryl’s daughter, Alexandra. And we welcomed Keshonda and Christina to the firm in October as our Paralegal and Communications Specialist. Already, we wonder how we ever got by without them.

More people require more workspace! So, we decided this summer to expand our team into an additional suite within the RE/MAX United building. One consequence is that we now have two additional conference rooms (with windows!) and now have more scheduling flexibility than we did before.

And we won a bunch of awards, with your help. This year, we received Cary Magazine’s “Maggie” award, and we have been recognized as a Super Lawyer Rising Star, Best Attorney in Cary by the Cary News, and one of the fastest growing firms in the country by the Law Firm 500. Thank you everyone for voting for us when we’ve asked. It is truly humbling to win. It also helps others find out about us.

Looking forward to 2018… in January, we will be expanding our probate and trust administration service area to help settle the estate when a loved one passes. While previously we provided this service only for clients who had done their planning with our firm, we will begin to accept cases where we didn’t design the client’s estate plan. Prior planning clients’ executors/trustees will still be eligible for a free consultation.

On a personal level, Jackie and I are expanding our philanthropic and fitness efforts. We are aiming to more than double the amount of time and money we give to charity. At the same time, we have a goal of being healthier than we have ever been in 2018.

We want to thank you for sharing your stories, goals, and values with us in 2017. Our success depends on you, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to serve you and your families. On behalf of all of us at CFEP, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and a very prosperous new year!
