Upon being greeted by Kate at the front door, you’ll immediately notice her kindness and friendliness. Kate is our energizing Operations Assistant who plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations at the office.

Kate first entered the law field when she realized that much of her interests aligned with the legal profession. Her great communication skills, ability to work in a dynamic group setting, and (thanks to her experience in helping guests at zoos) enjoyment of client interactions, are just some of the many wonderful skills displayed in Kate’s work ethic and infectious enthusiasm. Kate attended the University of Dayton in Ohio for her B.S. in Environmental Biology and is currently attending Duke University for her paralegal certificate.

As long as she could remember, Kate loved animals; when she was younger, she wanted to be a veterinarian or a zookeeper.  She fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a zookeeper for over 15 years, eight of which were at the Duke Lemur Center where she provided daily care for the animals, and assisted in the Species Survival Program for Coquerel's sifaka.

I loved being a zookeeper, but I really feel I accomplished all my goals in that field and as I began looking for something new, I realized the legal field matched my other interests and skills in working such as organization and attention to detail.” She hopes to keep in touch with her past field by volunteering for the Duke Lemur Center to continue to help care for the animals.

In her free time, Kate plays or runs with her four dogs (Jack, Reese, Cash, and Murphy), enjoys long hikes with her husband, and binging on her favorite television shows: Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Schitt’s Creek.
